About The Event

Our Youth Technology Camps are a two-day intensive program for students aged 8-16 to learn about emerging technologies.

The way farming is evolving today is to be more like smart cities. Growers are using modern techniques such as sensors, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to acquire a more complete view of their crops. These methods help them make better decisions about crop production and find ways where improvements could be made for food production. FarmBeats for Students program helps provide these modern tools into the hands of learners today using information on agricultural practices.

What we learn in the 2 days

  • Students learn about AI, Machine Learning and the Internet of Things (IoT) by building a monitoring system.
  • They assemble a Raspberry Pi equipped with atmospheric and environmental sensors to understand their soil's health, analyze data and make decisions.
  • The student-built IoT devices will connect to a custom Excel workbook that collects real-time data using Excel’s Data Streamer.
  • Using an AI program students are introduced to building their Machine Learning models applying this technique to identify pests in gardens.
  • We will also be looking at responsible AI frameworks engaging students with some of the social challenges raised by this new technology.

Day 1

  • Students build their own IoT device with a Raspberry Pi and an array of sensors
  • Create an AI agent to notify them of soil moisture levels

Day 2

  • Students use AI to identify pests in their garden with a machine learning tool
  • Students discuss how AI impacts them and the world around them.

Certificate of completion will be presented at end of the program (2-day attendance)
