Workshop content:

Do you love science and want to learn more about how life works?  If yes, then you should join our biotechnology and genetics workshop

Biotechnology and genetics are the fields of science that study how living things are made and how they can be changed using technology. They have many applications in medicine, agriculture, environment, and industry. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of biotechnology and genetics, such as:

  • What are DNA, genes, and proteins and how do they determine your traits?
  • How can you extract DNA from fruits and vegetables using household items?
  • How can you make bacteria glow in the dark using genetic engineering?
  • How can you edit genes using CRISPR, a powerful tool that can cut and paste DNA?

You will also get to participate in some fun and hands-on activities, such as:

  • Creating a model of DNA
  • Testing your taste buds for a genetic trait
  • Blood type game
  • Playing games and quizzes to test your knowledge

This workshop is designed students' curiosity and enthusiasm for biotechnology and genetics. No prior experience or knowledge is required. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to learn.
